Virtual Worlds

Over the years I have discovered what might be referred to as an addictive personality. No drugs or booze for me though - it seems that coke, anything technology/internet related tends to provoke an somewhat obsessive response.

Two years ago I was introducted to MMORPG’s (massively multi-player online roleplaying games) which are derived from games such as Dungeons and Dragons and the somewhat old hat MUDs (multi-user dungeons).

I have been playing Everquest II for the last two years, and am a pretty hard core gamer - have been known to go for 20 hour sessions at a time when the going it good!

I currently have 5 characters in game. My main character is called Luthienn (derived from Tolkien’s Luthien) and she is a level 70 fury (healer).

It is an interesting reflection on human nature and the world in general, crossing topics such as community, conflict management, leadership, teamwork, economics, inflation, income and budget management.

I will use this part of my blog to reflect upon the nature of virtual worlds and mmorpg’s - and if I disappear for a while, you know where I am…..in game :)
