I want to bang my head against a wall

Frustrations in applying Web2.0 to my learner context

I am sitting here at Good Sue’s trying to get my head around the application of Web2.0 technologies in the application to the professional development of staff at ECU (if you really want to know-I lugged my entire pc over here for the weekend – so very sad).

In trying to explain to Good Sue, why I am getting so frustrated in trying to find something from Google and other practitioners (that in my head) that does not seem to be there. Maybe because it is late, I seem to be having some frustrations in articulating exactly what it is that I want. I want to scream right now and bash my head against a wall (or possibly hers).

In particular, I am giving consideration to the use of wikis (while not a blog lover, I find it easier to see the application). Having walked away and sat in front of the football for 10 minutes to let the temper settle down, I think what I need is a complete paradigm shift.

We offer a large variety of courses at ECU, that range from compliance to learning in a collaborative context. I am now reconsidering that in fact we may need to rebuild our approach to a number of offerings from the ground up.

If I am struggling with the concepts, how hard is going to be for my colleagues who will be doing the bulk of the delivery to shift their own paradigms?

I have started a wiki for a mentoring program we run at ECU as a part of the Joondalup Learning Precinct. Our parters are West Coast TAFE and the Western Australian Police Academy. It’s a bit thin on the ground at the moment, but will be interesting to see how this goes.
